Pulaski County Electronic Recycling

Recent studies suggest that over 70% of an estimated 220 million tons of electronics and computer products are disposed in landfills each year. Besides the volume involved, electronic equipment may pose environmental hazards if not properly disposed. PC monitors can contain several pounds of lead, and circuit boards harbor lead, mercury, arsenic and flame-retardant chemicals. CRT monitors and TVs contain an average of 4 pounds of lead each. . Excessive lead and other toxins pose a problem in landfills because they can leach into groundwater or, in the case of a lined landfill, force expensive leachate treatment. In an effort to curtail the practice of disposing electronics in area landfills, the District currently has five centers where Pulaski County residents may take their electronics for recycling.
